Dolphin Encounter

Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world and very family-oriented. Therefore, you can find plenty of activities for children and families in Dubai. One of the exciting activities not only for children but for the whole family is the Dolphin Encounter.

You can experience the dolphin encounter in Dolphin Bay in Atlantis Hotel, where Aquaventure Water Park is located. They have several other experiences with dolphins available, like dolphin kayak, dolphin paddle, and dolphin meet and greet.

There are 2 options for the encounter you can choose from. Either in shallow water or deep water. The encounter in shallow water is suitable for children from 3 years old and adults. The encounter in deep water is suitable for children since 8 years old and adults. However, you have to be a confident swimmer but life jackets are also provided if needed.

In both instances, you will receive 15 minutes of safety briefing and orientation, a wet suit, and 30 minutes inside the water with dolphins. You will be able to hug the dolphin, swim with him and you will get a kiss from him as well. At the end, you will watch a short dolphin show.

Booking Information

The price for an encounter in shallow water is 875 AED and in deep water is 1,075 AED. In both cases, you will get the same-day free access to Aquaventure Water Park. How cool is that? Book your Dolphin Encounter ticket online. Pictures and other souvenirs can be purchased after the experience. If you love dolphins, I totally recommend this activity as meeting with these marine mammals is an awesome experience, and for children, it will be a dream come true.

The Dubai Fountain

One of the top attractions in Dubai is one that will spark your kids’ imagination. The Dubai Fountain consists of a series of powerful waterjets lined in a design of circles and arcs. A captivating light and water choreography brings it to life as it dances to the music.

The world’s tallest performing fountain can be found at Burj Lake in Downtown Dubai, in between the Dubai Mall, the Burj Khalifa, and Souk al Bahar. You can watch the Dubai Fountain Show from the Waterfront Promenade, from the entrance bridge to Souk al Bahar, or from one of the lakeside restaurants in the Dubai Mall and Souk al Bahar. There are even some upscale hotel suites that offer a view of the Dubai Fountain.

But the one viewpoint that enchants kids the most is the Dubai Fountain Boardwalk. You can literally feel the spray on the floating platform because you’re so close to the water. You can watch this spectacle daily from 6pm to 11pm. It starts every 30 minutes and lasts for 5 minutes. Lunchtime shows occur seasonally.

Booking Information

Note that this tourist site can get quite busy on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets to the boardwalk cost AED 20 per person and can be purchased at the ticket booth along the Waterfront Promenade. It’s an excellent attraction to combine with a visit to one of the Burj Khalifa platforms, the Burj Khalifa light show, or one of the activities inside the Dubai Mall, such as the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. Book online your entry to Burj Khalifa (observation deck) and the Dubai Fountain along with hotel transfers.

Dubai Mall Aquarium

Among all the fantastic activities that you can carry on with your family around Dubai Mall, one of the unmissable is the aquarium. Well, it is more than a traditional fisher tank. The Dubai Mall Aquarium is one of the world’s largest suspended aquariums at 148,000 sq. feet. Built along with the Dubai Mall in 2008, this massive tank is home to over 33,000 aquatic animals across 140 species.

The aquarium is on 3 levels. The top one is mainly a zoo itinerary through species and origins. This part is dedicated to guided tours, which will lead you and your little ones to learn more about the underwater world. At this stage, you can also add more to your basic ticket, with the penguin’s world or the nocturnal animals trail. The two levels below are mostly the fish tanks and the aquarium tunnel.

Things to do in Dubai with kids, Dubai with kids, dubai for kids, Theme parks for kids in dubai, what to do in dubai with kids

Of course, the major highlight, and one of the most Instagrammable spots in Dubai, is the tunnel. You will walk underwater, surrounded by exotic fishes, sharks, and manta rays. Your kids will love it; those fantastic animals will swim overhead as you walk through. There is even the option to swim in the tank, but this is one of the most expensive ways to explore the world-famous aquarium.

Opening daily from 10am to midnight, the Dubai Mall Aquarium is an unmissable experience in Dubai. Walking through the tunnel and seeing marine life up is one of the major attractions in Dubai for kids and not only. It is the best educational visit while also taking time for shopping and sightseeing.

Booking Information

Overall, there are many ticket options. The basic entry costs AED 100, a combo ticket with the underwater zoo costs AED 180, and a behind-the-scenes tour costs AED 250. Check out alll these tour options to see what suits you best:

Dubai Parks and Resorts

Sprawling over 25 million sq. feet and with over 100 rides, shows and attractions, Dubai Parks and Resorts is the largest integrated theme park destination in the Middle East.

Legoland Dubai

Legoland Dubai is the perfect adventure for families with children, both young and old. It has a range of rides and attractions for older and younger children. The park has various themed zones, including Adventure, Kingdoms, Imagination, and Miniland.

UAE, DUBAI – JULY 16, 2018: entrance outdoor legoland

The Adventure section is ideal for older children who love thrilling rides. Various rides are available, including roller coasters such as the Dragon Coaster. The Medieval-themed section works for both older and younger children. There are also rides and attractions like the Dragon’s Apprentice and Merlin’s Flying Machines. The Imagination section is a pleasure for young kids, with mild rides and interactive play areas inspired by Duplo Valley. In addition, Miniland is home to some of the best Lego replicas of famous landmarks. This is engaging for the imaginations of both young and old visitors.

Planning is essential for ensuring a seamless family experience. Do check the park schedule in advance and buy tickets online. You can also visit Dubai Legoland while travelling from Dubai to Oman by road.

Booking Information

You can also look into combo tickets, which sometimes include admission to additional parks such as Legoland Water Park and Motiongate Dubai. Ticket prices vary depending on your age and time of purchase. A child’s single-day ticket costs roughly 275 AED and an adult ticket costs around 395 AED. Here are some options:

If you are a LEGO enthusiast, think of staying at the LEGOLAND Hotel. This way you can complete the trip in this fun Lego-themed world.

Motiongate

Motiongate Hollywood-inspired theme park is a place my kids and I visit again and again! Set in Dubai Parks and Resorts, you’ll pass through Riverland to get there. Leave any shopping here for the way home. It’s fun to take some photos though.

Motiongate has different zones and rides for everyone, from totally safe for little ones to ones that leave you screaming. Some of the rides are indoors and some are outdoors so it’s best to plan your route. DreamWorks is all inside so time this for the hottest part of your visit. Our favourite here is the 4D Kung Fu Unstoppable and the scariest is the Madagascar. Smurfland is fun for little ones  but also for grown ups. We never miss the Smurf rollercoaster.

For a slow but fun ride, head to Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey in DreamWorks or Hotel Transylvania. For an adrenaline rush, head to the John Wick or Green Hornet rollercoaster or Blast Off. Our all-time favourite is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs water ride, great for cooling down too! Make sure to look out for your favourite characters wandering around to grab selfies with!

It’s not allowed to take food inside Motiongate and they search bags. There are plenty places to eat though. Have some pocket money ready to buy souvenirs from your favourite movies.

Booking Information

Look out for offers for better ticket prices, such as combos or on reputable websites. Try and go early to avoid crowds or in summer, go around 4pm. Browse through these options:

More Theme Parks in Dubai for kids

Ski Dubai

Ski Dubai in the Mall of the Emirates is a top-notch, family-friendly attraction that offers a unique opportunity to experience snow and skiing in the desert city. 85m artificial snow slope is the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East, providing a winter wonderland in Dubai all year round.

Of course, skiing on a ski slope inside the shopping mall isn’t the same as, let’s say, skiing in Canada on snowy mountains, but it’s still very impressive. Plus, the slope is ideal for first-time skiers.

Things to do in Dubai with kids, Dubai with kids, dubai for kids, Theme parks for kids in dubai, what to do in dubai with kids

But Ski Dubai isn’t only about skiing. It offers a wide range of fun activities that are well-suited for both children and teens. Kids will love the penguin encounter experience, Snow Bullet zipline and the Snow Park, a large area dedicated to playing in the snow, featuring unlimited access to bobsled, tubing run, bumper cars, climbing wall, zorb ball, snow plough playground and sliding hill.

The temperature at Ski Dubai is -2°C, so it’s a great place to cool off on a hot day. But don’t worry, all the necessary ski gear is provided, including a jacket, trousers, gloves, socks, and boots to keep you warm while you enjoy all the snow activities.

If you prefer something more relaxing, Ski Dubai also offers Snow Cinema, where you can watch movies surrounded by snow, nibble the popcorn and sip hot chocolate. After a fun-filled day, you can get something to drink and eat at the Emirates Mall food court.

Booking Information

You can book a Classic Pass that gives you unlimited access to the rides at Ski Dubai with your full day pass.

Wild Wadi

Without a doubt, Wild Wadi on Jumeirah Beach is one of Dubai’s most fun places to take children. This family-orientated water park is one of Dubai’s original attractions, and despite being only a fraction of the size of Aquaventure Water Park at Atlantis hotel, it offers families with younger children a place to enjoy themselves on gentler rides alongside water games including water shooters.

Things to do in Dubai with kids, Dubai with kids, dubai for kids, Theme parks for kids in dubai, what to do in dubai with kids

But being smaller doesn’t mean that older children or adults are left out of the fun, far from it. A few fast waterslides like the Jumeirah Sceirah, which travels up to 80km/h or Burj Surj, where you ride fast rapids on a rubber ring, will test the mettle of even the bravest adventurer.
The lagoon is the place to be for those looking for a calmer experience. Swim in the warm water or float around the lazy river, but watch out for the wave machine kicking in, turning it into the largest wave pool in the Middle East!

Being a Muslim country, you must know how to dress appropriately in Dubai, and being at Wild Wadi is no exception. There is a list of swimming attire that is not acceptable, including transparent swimsuits, underwear and shorts. Many ladies will wear full head-to-toe bodysuits in accordance with their religion; however, Western guests can wear swimsuits and bikinis as long as they conform to Wild Wadi’s rules.

Booking Information

As of 2023 entry ticket prices were Adults £43. Children below 1.1 metres in height £38. Wild Wadi is open Monday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm. Book a full-day entry ticket to the Wild Wadi Waterpark.

Green Planet

Green Planet Dubai is a fully immersive rainforest experience loved by kids and adults alike. Like many such activities in Dubai, this tropical rainforest is indoors in a biodome and features thousands of plants, birds, reptiles and fish.

This attraction has a microclimate, ideal for the animals, and as you walk through, it can feel like you are in a real-life rainforest. The animals are not in cages. They move freely around the dome. Don’t be surprised if a parrot swoops past or lands on your shoulder! Parrots are not all, there are. Lemurs darting around, and the birds are probably the most impressive, we loved the toucans. There are so many different colours and species.

Everything is based around a giant tree, and the path through this attraction essentially winds around and around until it reaches the top of the building. Some bridges halfway up which cross over into the tree. The bat cave may be a little scary for little ones as they tend to swoop by. Aside from birds tweeting, gushing water sounds just like a waterfall. At certain times of the day, it rains in the biodome, making it feel incredibly real.

There are many staff throughout the building offering children the opportunity to interact with the animals, everything from snakes to sloths. This attraction is acceptable for any age child. The main thing is to ensure younger children keep a safe distance from the animals, and as mentioned, the bat cave may be a little scary. It is best to go early in the day and preferably mid-week to avoid the crowds as it’s most busy on weekends in the afternoon.

Aside from nature, there are a couple of play areas including an adventure trail and a soft play area. Remember to bring closed shoes and socks for these experiences and check the weight/height restrictions in advance.

Booking Information

Since so much of the experience revolved around daylight, it closes at 6 pm. It is best to book entry ticket online, and tickets start at 155 AED, with little ones under two going free. Parking is a little tricky during busy periods, there is a mall across the road, which has parking. It’s best to take a taxi, or there are several Dubai buses which pass nearby. Or you can book tickets with transfers included.
